Slabs we can connect you with a pro for

Heavier loads need more

A pad for a large motorhome or a loaded horse trailer carries much more weight than a patio. Contractors may recommend a thicker slab, a stronger mix, extra reinforcement, or thickened edges. Tell them exactly what will sit on it.

Buildings and permits

If the slab is for a shed, carport or metal building, the building itself may need a permit and the slab may need to meet specific engineering for wind load and anchors. In Florida that matters. Check with Marion County Building Safety or the City of Ocala, and with the building supplier, before the pour. See our permit article.

Access

Back-yard slabs can be hard to reach with a concrete truck. Crews may need to drive across the yard, use a pump or haul with buggies, which affects price. Mark septic tanks, drain fields, wells and irrigation lines before anyone drives on the lawn.

Cost

Slabs are priced mainly by square footage and thickness, plus site prep and access. See the cost guide for rough estimates.

Protect yourself

Ask any contractor for proof of general liability and workers' compensation insurance, a written quote that lists thickness, square footage, finish and what is included, and who pulls any permit. Check the contractor's license status on the Florida DBPR site or with Marion County. Don't pay the full price before the work is done.

Questions people ask

How thick should an RV pad be?

It depends on the RV's weight and the soil. Many contractors pour RV pads thicker than a normal driveway. Ask for their recommendation in writing.

Do I need a permit for a shed slab?

Often the shed itself needs a permit depending on size and use. Ask Marion County or the City of Ocala.

Can the truck reach my back yard?

Sometimes. If not, contractors can pump or wheel concrete in, which may add cost.

Ocala Concrete Driveways is a free referral service. We do not perform concrete work and do not hold a contractor license. Calls and requests are passed to independent, local concrete contractors who set their own prices, do the work, and are solely responsible for it. Always ask any contractor for proof of license and insurance and a written quote before work starts.
